Start Point is at the end of a peninsular that projects 1 mile out to sea at the southern end of Start Bay. It is one of the most exposed headlands around the English coast and the lighthouse has stood on the point since 1836. Originally manned, it was automated in 1993. The light stands 63 metres above sea level and flashes 3 times every 10 seconds.
