Bantham Sands is the best surfing beach in the South Hams but dinghy sailing on the River Avon is also a popular sport during the summer months. The river in full flood sweeps in a long curve past the small quay and boathouse that nestle under the thickly wooded embankment. A ferry boat operating from the quay provides a link to the far shore. Important if you intend to follow the Avon Estuary Trail.
