Newton Creek branches off from the River Yealm and the tidal waters ebb and flow between Newton Ferrers on the north shore and Noss Mayo to the south. The mature woodlands that cover the surrounding hills reach right down to the water's edge. In some places their spreading branches mark the high water line.
