The sandy bays along the estuary are very attractive but they leave very little beach at high tide. North Sands has adequate parking and as the tide recedes a wide stretch of sand is exposed. During low water, spring tides you can walk out to the water's edge to get a close look at the ruins of Fort Charles perched high up on a natural rock island.
