The small circular battery of Bayards Cove Fort was built around 1509 and the houses on this oldest of Dartmouth's quays are also Tudor. A plaque commemorates a visit to this quay by the Pilgrim Fathers. What better on a warm, sunny day than to sit on one of the wooden benches and watch the busy river traffic plying up and down the Dart, crossed regularly by the lower ferry running between Bayards Cove and Kingswear?
